Adventures In Moksha 2012

Art Basel week serves as a meeting of the minds for some of today’s most creative thinkers. And, last week, the city of Miami was transformed into a metropolitan canvas, dowsed with all forms of expression. As the sun set Saturday, it appeared as if the city’s thirst to party was growing exponentially. Copious galleries and clubs opened their doors catering toward festival attendees, but the most anticipated late-night soirée occurred at the legendary Moksha Family Arts Collective. Located in the middle of Little Haiti, Moksha is truly it’s own weird bubble of an artistic paradise. In what appeared to be a gathering for the Burner community in preparation for Burning Man, Moksha embraced the Art Basel chic and drew an eclectic crowd of Burners, ravers, hipsters and a wide array of flat-brimmed, pinned-out dreadies.

Of Monsters And Men Make Beautiful Noise At Terminal 5

I had the pleasure of interviewing Of Monsters and Men in April of 2011. It was less than two years ago, but the band was just getting their footing in the United States. A video of them playing a live version of “Little Talks” was making some waves on YouTube. I played the song for my friends who enjoyed it, but had never heard of this obscure Icelandic folk band.

Primus Delivers 3D Odyssey To Miami Diehards

As the lights illuminated the stage and the funk-metal superstars of Primus stepped into their element, the crowd released a thunderous roar in anticipation of the weirdness about to be unleashed. Initial notes signaled that 3D glasses should be fastened, and Primus’s inter-dimensional odyssey began. Les Claypool’s entrancing vocals and booty-bumping bass quickly turned the Fillmore Miami Beach into a parallel universe powered by protruding psychedelic imagery, face-melting guitar riffs, and free-flowing rhythmic breakdowns. With many of South Florida’s concertgoers at Bear Creek, the crowd was filled with old-time diehards, creating a particularly intimate feel for the night on Saturday, November 10.

Rubblebucket Celebrates Halloween Early At The Funky Biscuit

Embracing an early start to the Halloween festivities, Rubblebucket’s performance at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton on Thursday, October 25 was yet another bumping party coordinated by South Florida-based scene purveyors Brotherly Love Productions. There has been a lot of local hype surrounding Rubblebucket since the band’s free concert in Miami over the summer, which had a hand in boosting the demand for more. Their return to the Sunshine State prompted much elation from numerous newfound fans, hungry to finally get good and Rubbley. With cameos by everything from robots to pirates, Thursday night became a dance-filled, costumed pre-Halloween soiree.
